Quakers Walk Protection Group is a non-political group consisting of a growing number of people who are concerned about the future of Quakers Walk.
It was set up in 2005 when we first became aware of the threat to the rural nature of the walk as a result of the proposed housing development in the adjacent field. Group membership is free and is open to anyone who wants to help protect and preserve Quakers Walk.
The primary objective of the QWPG is to preserve Quakers Walk as a historic bridleway and to protect it from any ‘improvement’ or development that would change its character. In particular we believe that:
lighting will have a negative effect on local wildlife such as bats and other nocturnal species and will not make the area safer
the path surface needs to be improved but any work undertaken should be sensitive to the surrounding area
the gates at the southern end of the walk must be preserved and restored and kept closed to control access to the walk, not fixed open as proposed
