October 2009: Work starts on housing estate
Observant supporters will have seen that work has started on the London Rd access to the Quakers Walk site. Two trees have been removed, and the road within the site has started to take shape. In time to come, the area round the entrance will be reshaped. Please keep an eye out for contractors attempting to enter the site via the north end of the walk, which is not allowed.
In other news, the developer has applied to discharge the requirement to lay electric cables along the southern part of the Walk, which was a condition stipulated at the Regulatory Committee meeting in March 2009. The developer argued that digging the trench for the cable could cause root damage, and any arrangements made now could easily be out of date when / if the lighting issue is reviewed in the future. The planning officers agreed and recommended accepting the application.
The matter was discussed at the Eastern Devizes planning committee on Thursday 15th October, and was approved. This is good news, as it makes the lighting of Quakers Walk in the future less likely.
