12th November 2009: Developers try to close Quakers Walk to public for 6 months

On October 29th, Devizes and Roundway residents were shocked to read in the Notices page of the Gazette & Herald that the Developers of the Quakers Walk site had applied for the footpath to be closed for 6 months "in the interests of public safety due to footpath reconstruction and the laying of a sewer". This went against all the assurances that had been given by Pegasus on behalf of the Developers at the public meeting held in May 2008.

The Wiltshire Council Rights of Way officer appears to have been unaware of the Notice and has been unable to provide any information about why it is necessary to close Quakers Walk and why it will take 6 months to carry out the work.

The Quakers Walk Protection Group has arranged a meeting with the Developers in order to find answers to these questions and to make it clear to them that what they are proposing is unacceptable. The outcome of that meeting will be reported on this website so watch this space.
