The Quakers Walk Protection Group opposes the Application from St Monica Trust for a Retirement Village. We believe it would have a negative impact on Quakers Walk. The buildings themselves will be densely packed and unsympathetic to the landscape. The level of activity which will be generated by the site will increase the noise, air, light and traffic pollution in the area.
Quakers Walk is a major route of commuting, foraging and social interaction route for at least eight species of bat. There are proposals from St Monica for low level lighting within the development, but in view of the legal protection enjoyed by bats, further research should be carried out on the impact which the development would have
The loss of green space which will result from the development is another blow to the people of Devizes who look at Quakers Walk as somewhere for recreation, walking, jogging and cycling. Quakers Walk is part of Devizes' history and should be preserved for future generations as a rural walk.
